For a long time now I've been building up a pretty impressive Clarins wishlist. Having fallen hard for every product I've tried from the brand, recently I've been really keen to expand my collection and give a vaster range of products a go. I therefore jumped at the chance to participate in the sampling event that the brand have been holding with Boots (if you haven't seen the posters already you can find out more information here). I've only been using the products for a couple of weeks now, but I really wanted to share my opinions on them so far...
Beauty Flash Balm - one of the products I was most eager to try, the lady at the counter recommended this after I explained how much of a struggle it is to get make-up to last on my skin. I'm not usually impressed by products like this, but I have to admit that so far we've been getting on really quite well. My foundation sits far better on the skin when I've applied BFB beforehand and it just gives everything a fresh, healthy glow without being too overpowering. A new love? Possibly. But I'm still in the market to expand my primer collection further.
HydraQuench Lotion - out of all the samples I received, this was probably the one I'd heard the least about. I'm aware of the HydraQuench creams and have actually sampled one in the past (I liked it, but not enough to repurchase) - the lotion, however, was a whole new idea for me. I've been using this every morning since receiving it and I'm really enjoying using something so light and fresh on my skin when I first wake up. The only issue is that I don't really feel like it does anything more than a cheaper hydrating lotion could (although this does contain an SPF - anything to cut out extra steps in my morning routine is a bonus). Either way, I'll probably try finding a cheaper alternative rather than buy the full size Clarins option - a heads up on any potential dupes would be more than appreciated.
Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner - without doubt this was the pick of the bunch for me; I've heard amazing things about this product and I couldn't have been happier to have finally got my hands on it. This is the only sample I received that I haven't been able to use on an everyday basis, so I'm really in no position to comment all that thoroughly on this one. That being said, in the short time that I have been using it I've seen noticeable improvements to the scarring that's been plaguing my skin of late and the changes seem to be the most visible the morning after I've used this. It's very early days, but so far I couldn't be more impressed and I can't wait to get my mitts on the full sized version.
Toning Lotion with Iris - on those nights that my skin's been having a rest from the exfoliating toner, this is what I've been reaching for. I've recently been dabbling in the world of toners far more than I used to but I still don't have a good quality, 'go-to' option for everyday use. This feels incredibly soothing on the skin and relieves redness, as well as providing a smooth base for the rest of my skincare to be applied over. It's filled a toner-sized hole in my skincare stash and is another of Clarins' hidden gems to have been added to my shopping list.
Overall I'm really happy with the product samples I was given and I'll definitely be picking up larger sizes of three products. The lady at the Clarins counter was incredibly helpful and seemed to know exactly what my skin needed after just a few minutes of beauty related chit chat. As far as I know, the Boots promotion is continuing in store until Sunday (February 9th) so I'd really urge anyone who's interested in the brand to pop in and be matched up; there really is no better way to get a feel for something before you go ahead and spend on the real deal.
