Review | Rimmel Apocalips in 'Celestial'

The Apocalips have whipped the beauty blogging world into a bit of a frenzy ever since their release back in January, but for some reason I seemed to miss out on the buzz. Whilst I loved the concept there's something about these kind of high street glosses that has me switched off. Despite the ambitious claims I just didn't trust that the colour would last long enough on my lips, plus the shade range wasn't enough to initially wow me either; however it would seem that the hype has eventually drawn me in. After seeing Rebecca from fromroses using the dusty pink shade 'Celestial' I had a date with my nearest Rimmel stand and I was actually eager to try the much raved about formula.

This shade has been gracing my pout quite regularly lately and I'm actually fairly impressed with the results. Branded as a middle ground product, it claims to have both the colour pay-off of a lipstick and the glossy, modern finish of a gloss; both of which I'd find it hard to disagree with. The colour doesn't last all day but I really don't think it needs to, one or two quick touch ups doesn't hurt and I love how easy that is to do on the move. I did my research and found that blotting the first layer down with a bit of tissue and applying a second coat over the top is one way to make sure that you reach maximum longevity with this, which for me is a respectable few hours (shorter if I'm eating/drinking). Whilst I don't think this compares to many high end liquid lipsticks, for such bargain price I don't think you can really go wrong; Rimmel have definitely pulled it out of the bag with this one. As I'm not a fan of super glossy lips I tend to blot it down quite a lot, but I find that then it leaves me with a nice even colour and a semi-matte finish. Gloss fans needn't worry though - upon initial application this stuff is damn shiny and it stays that way for a decent amount of time.

The Apocalips are available in Boots, Superdrug & independent chemists all over the UK, but I'd recommend checking out Savers as they often have some brilliant deals on Rimmel products. I'd love to know your recommendations from the collection, too!
