Revlon Matte Lipstick in 'Mauve It Over' - £7.49
A little bit of a lazy post today as I've been stuck in bed feeling very poorly and very sorry for myself. Nothing too bad, just a stomach bug that I'm hoping will vanish as quickly as it arrived! Either way I wasn't really in the mood to take swatch photos of some of the newer products I've been trying, so I decided to do a little review of one of the key lipsticks in my collection; Revlon's Matte range in 'Mauve It Over'.
I actually mentioned this in my February Favourites video (view that here) and spoke about how I first became aware of the lipsticks after seeing Lisa Eldridge rave about them on her Youtube channel. I'm a massive Lisa Eldridge fan and tend to take her word as gospel, so if it's good enough for her it's good enough for me! 'Mauve It Over' is a soft red-based brown that appears a little more coral than I expected once applied, but that might just be against my pale complexion. I wasn't initially looking for a shade like this but I was desperate to give one of them a go and no others were my cup of tea. With only 9 shades to choose from I was pretty limited, but I did like 'Mauve It Over' - at least more than the nudes and pinks they also offer. It's pretty expected that drugstore brands don't tend to make products in a really wide array of colours anyway so it didn't bother me too much!
In terms of application I really can't fault this. A thick, creamy formula, this glides on like a dream and is extremely highly pigmented for a lipstick that retails for under a tenner. It does remind me a lot of MAC Matte lipsticks as far as the intensity of colour goes. The lipstick does apply matte and feels really rich on the lips, something that gives it an added element of luxury. I adore this and it's one of my most used lipsticks, however I haven't come across any other shades that appeal to me at all - at least not in store. If you're into pink lipsticks I can imagine this would be perfect for you though, especially if you're like me and prefer a matte lip for everyday wear. I've also heard that these lipsticks work really well if applied like a stain so I can't wait to try that out. For £7.49 this is super long lasting and is just a pleasure to work with, I just wish they had a wider range of colours!
