Sanctuary 5min Thermal Detox Mask

Sanctuary 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask - £10.50

I was slightly naughty and ended up doing a pretty large skincare haul in my local Boots lately (so there's plenty more reviews on their way) and this mask was something I picked up kind of on a whim. I've spoken a lot before about wanting an overnight mask as I feel like my skin needs a bit of a boost every once in a while, but it wasn't until I sat and looked at my skin properly that I realised it's really more congested than dry. This mask works in just 5 minutes and includes ingredients such as charcoal and kaolin clay which work to drag impurities out from deep within the skin - perfect for someone who suffers from blemishes like me!

The first thing that really intrigued me about this mask is it's warming properties. The instructions state that you should smooth a thin layer of product over the face twice weekly and leave it on for five minutes; allowing the initially hot product to cool as it draws out all the crap from your skin. When this is first applied it does feel very warm, but not uncomfortably so. I've looked at other reviews for this and some people have said it gives a burning sensation to begin with, but I really haven't found this at all personally! After a few seconds the heat dies down a little and the mask is just lukewarm and lovely. It has a funny smell - kind of like plasticine - and the product is the same bluey-grey shade of the bottle, but neither of these elements bothered me particularly. I actually quite like the smell and no face mask looks good when it's on does it?! For me the product was a little tricky to spread around the face as it's quite thick and gloopy but I've discovered that massaging it on in circular motions works best and it's easy to get an even covering this way.

In terms of results I really am impressed with this. I have bought a lot of new products lately so I've given my skincare routine a bit of a shake up, making it hard to determine exactly what benefit each one is having, BUT I do feel that this has made a substantial difference in the overall appearance of my skin. I wash this off using a warm muslin cloth and then splash cold water over my face and my skin feels instantly more soft and refreshed. There's a definite decrease in the amount of those awkward little 'under the skin' blemishes that I get too, which I would largely put down to this as the warm charcoal is helping to extract any impurities before they become inflamed  My boyfriend has even noticed little tiny crystals appearing on the surface of spots after I've used this; as though the gunk is visibly being drawn out of the area (although this is to be confirmed!)

Overall I'm so happy with this and would recommend it to anyone looking to detoxify their skin. My skin type is combination and it's worked really well for me; although drier skins may need a mask that offers more hydration.
