Batiste 'XXL Volume' Dry Shampoo

Batiste 'XXL Volume' Dry Shampoo - £3.99/200ml

Admittedly dry shampoo seems like a bit of a strange thing to dedicate an entire post to but I think this is the first in a (very) long line that I've tried that I actually have any real opinion about. I'm a massive fan of dry shampoos as my hair tends to get incredibly greasy incredibly quickly. I went through school and college washing it in the shower every single morning which took up bags of time, especially as my hair started getting longer. I don't have oily skin or anything like that so I have no idea why my hair's got such oily tendencies, but still!

Like I say I've tried a lot of dry shampoos in the past and have always been satisfied with the results - although I've found that apart from varying scents most of them do the exact same thing. Batiste is a brand I'm familiar with and trust so when I saw their XXL Volume was on offer I quickly popped a can or two in my basket! I don't know why it took me so long to try this (it's been out for over a year now and usually anything that promises 'big' hair is straight on my wishlist) but I was happy that I'd finally got round to picking some up. In terms of how this works as a dry shampoo I don't really have any complaints. It soaks up any oil easily and is virtually invisible on my hair once it's been rubbed in and lightly brushed through. The thing that really puts me off with this however is how coarse it makes my hair feel. I don't mind the matte effect it leaves me with too much, but it just dries my hair out completely even if I try to just apply it to the roots. My hair does definitely look and feel a lot bigger and more voluminous which is obviously a massive plus point, but I don't feel as though this means I have 'no need to backcomb' as the branding suggests as after a couple of hours my hair tends to fall a little flat again.

In terms of how this works as a dry shampoo I really can't fault it; although I can't fault the way that good old talcum powder acts as a dry shampoo either! I love that this gives my hair oomph and volume, but for me the effects just don't last long enough to make up for how rough and coarse this leaves my hair feeling. Even if I try to brush this product out thoroughly at the end of the day my hair remains feeling horrible - the only way to get rid of it really is to wash the dry shampoo out and condition really well. I'm a little bit disappointed with this as I don't think I'll be reaching the end of the can before I throw it out; something I've never done with any other dry shampoo I've tried. Boo!
