Post-Cleanse Skincare For Blemish Prone Skin
I'm always in a rush in the morning, so after briefly cleansing my face in the shower I'm straight on to moisturising at my dressing table. I'm on my third bottle of Kiehl's Skin Rescuer and it's been the only thing I've used in the mornings for as long as I can remember. It's particularly gentle and calming, providing just enough hydration to create a soft base for makeup to be applied on top of, minus any tacky residue.
Much like my makeup collection, my skincare routine has decreased in size dramatically over the past few months. I'm no longer interested in trying a never-ending array of new things to combat my blemish prone skin. Instead, I'm making a concious effort to stick with a small selection of products that seem to work for me, and to give them a real chance at improving my skin over time.
Evenings have a little more going on, but my routine is still comparatively stripped back and made up of no-frill products that keep the skin balanced and free of irritation. I've recently gone back to using Estée Lauder's Advanced Night Repair after giving it a break for a few years. It's a common misconception that this stuff is solely aimed at ageing skin, yet even for me it does a great job at fading scars and retexturising the skin, especially on evenings where it's feeling a little more problematic than usual.
Of course, it wouldn't be my daily skincare routine without a layer of Effaclar Duo[+]. I can't even begin to imagine how many tubes of this I've gotten through over the years, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was in the double figures. It doesn't work for everyone, but it keeps blemishes at bay and I can almost always make a connection between unsightly breakouts and me running out of this stuff. After coating the skin in a layer of the ultra-quenching Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream, I've been finishing things off with the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. It took me ages to finally try this, but I'm keen to try some more of MB's anti-blemish range, not least because this treatment works so well. It stinks and I go to bed with ugly pink splotches over my skin, but it works all the same. Just a quick dab onto any active spots and they're dried out at their source by morning, while some pesky under-the-skin bumps fail to make an appearance at all once they've had the Drying Lotion treatment.
