NARS Sheer Glow vs Armani Luminous Silk
My name is Natalie and I'm a recovering foundation hoarder.
I've recently had a sort through of my base collection and have slimmed it down to the bare essentials (well, almost). Two of the more iconic foundations to have made the cut are NARS Sheer Glow and Armani Luminous Silk . When I first started collecting high end makeup I found it almost impossible to choose between the two - both offer great coverage, a natural looking finish and impressive longevity. Both also look great both on and off camera and don't irritate my sensitive skin (it's worth noting that my skin leans more towards the dry side).
I'm shade '03' in Luminous Silk and 'Gobi' in Sheer Glow. And as you can probably tell from the image, they're pretty much identical. One of my favourite things about both foundations is that they cater to people with yellow undertones to the skin and the shades above are just about my perfect match. The shade range is impressive with both catering for a wide range of skin tones, but Armani offer a broader range overall - especially if your skin has pink or neutral undertones.
Contrary to the name, Sheer Glow isn't sheer. Both of these foundations offer a solid medium coverage that can be built up to a fuller finish. I still use concealer underneath my eyes, but with dark shadows like these it's impossible not to. Even so, I'd probably have to choose NARS simply because the coverage is a little fuller overall.
I apply both foundations with a damp beauty blender, which allows me to achieve a soft, natural looking finish. Sheer Glow is slightly thicker in texture, which can mean it takes a bit of extra effort to fully blend into the skin, but I really am splitting hairs as they're both super easy to work with.
Finish + Texture
I find Luminous Silk to have a slightly softer, dewier finish than Sheer Glow. It really is difficult to choose between the two as it's something that ultimately comes down to personal preference, but the semi-matte, velvet finish of Sheer Glow just slightly edges it for me. Considering the impressive coverage of both foundations, they feel light and comfortable enough to be worn throughout the day.
The longevity is impressive with both of these foundations; I can apply a thin layer in the morning and know that it’ll stick around until the end of the day. Touch ups are my pet hate, so it’s good to know that I won’t need to powder my face after a few hours either. If I were pushed, I’d say that Sheer Glow slightly edges this one based on it being able to look exactly the same after an eight hour work day than it does first thing in the morning.
Overall winner: NARS
Ta-dah! Ok, so the results are fairly similar in each category and it really was difficult to choose between the two, especially in terms of application and overall finish. Both foundations have really impressed me and I can definitely see why they're raved about so frequently - in fact I've already used up an entire bottle of both. If I were forced to choose between the two I think I'd always go for Sheer Glow, simply because the semi-matte finish is exactly what I look for in an everyday foundation. Still, if you're looking for something that's a little more fresh and radiant, Luminous Silk really is a great choice - especially if you have an oilier skin.
