Wardrobe Essentials | The Black Cigarette Trouser
The perfect pair of tailored black trousers have been high on my wish-list for a long time. It's not for lack of trying; in fact I've blindly purchased more pairs than I care to remember, each of them being too long, too formal, too casual or a combination of all three. Inspired by Brittany's post, this weekend the hunt was back on - and I think I may have finally cracked it.
After hours of debate, I finally settled on this pair from Monki. I love everything else that I own from the brand and with the promise of ASOS next day delivery and a free return if needed, I figured they were well worth the shot. I've heard a lot of people raving about the Topshop version, but there's something about the fabric that I just can't get on board with. I wanted a pair that felt equally as comfortable but would be a little more resilient and I feel as though these fit the bill perfectly.
The only downside is that they do only come in one length. Even so, rolling the hem of my trousers up has become so much of a daily habit that it's barely noticeable. For reference, I'm a little over 5'1" and I could probably get by without stepping on the bottom of these if I hadn't turned them up a few times, so for someone a few inches taller I can imagine that they'd fit perfectly. Aside from the height issues, I love them. They sit high on the waist and have a classic, smart feel to them - yet I still somehow feel as though I'm walking around in a pair of pj's. Underwear as outerwear isn't a trend that I could ever fully get on board with, but pyjamas...
