La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo: The Story So Far

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo: The Story So Far

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo - £13 (All skincare is currently 3 for 2 in Boots - just a heads up!)

I mentioned in my February Favourites video that I'd been testing out La Roche Posay's Effaclar Duo and quite a lot of you responded so I figured I'd take the time to write a little something about it. The post is entitled 'the story so far' because I have only been using this for a few weeks and I don't really feel as if that's long enough to completely make my mind up on a product, so if anything changes over the next couple of weeks I might make a post that retracts my statements completely! For now though I'm just going to give you an idea on the kind of effect this has had on my blemish prone skin in such a short space of time, which is a pretty incredible effect indeed.

I've been uhhming and ahhing about buying this for quite a while now. For me, £13 isn't a lot to spend on a product that really works as my skin is something that gets me down no end. I have skin that's extremely prone to spots and blemishes but it isn't really oily; in fact I'd say it veers slightly on the dry side of combination skin. This can make it really difficult to find skincare that works for me as most anti-blemish creams and serums have a really drying effect and seem to be aimed at oilier skin types only.

I use Effaclar Duo in place of my normal moisturiser (I usually use Simple moisturisers as I feel like they're effective whilst still being incredibly gentle on my skin). Applied in the morning and night, I've found that this has made a visible difference not just to the amount of blemishes that I get but to the overall texture and appearance of my skin. Even after one use my skin was noticeably clearer and any under the skin bumps that I felt were potential spots were reduced. Within the first week or so I'd say that almost all of the spots that had been there previously had gone down and although there was still visible scarring from where they'd been, obviously this was much easier to conceal with make up than the bumps that had been there previously! The odd spots have still managed to break through over the past few weeks, don't get me wrong, but the number has drastically reduced and it's genuinely not happening any where near as much now that my skin has got through the initial 'purging' stage - for the first time in years I can honestly say I don't have a single 'active' blemish on my entire face which is pretty unbelievable!

Although this product isn't normally noted for it's moisturising properties, my skin feels a lot smoother and more hydrated since using it. It creates a perfect base for make up and a little goes a long way - you really do only need to use a tiny bit to see a difference. I might seem like I'm going slightly OTT with singing this one's praises, but I honestly can't recommend it enough. I can't promise it'll work for everyone - christ knows how much money I've wasted on 'holy grail' products that others have raved about but haven't worked at all for me - but it's definitely worth a try if like me you're at the end of your tether with blemish prone skin, especially if yours isn't particularly oily. I'll update you if any other changes happen of course, but for now I really am over the moon with this and can't tell you how much difference it's made to my confidence, let alone my skin!
