All Bar One, Norwich
I'm not sure why All Bar One has never been on my radar before. I've walked past the Norwich branch countless times but never realised that they have a full menu in addition to the bar. Calum and I ventured in on a quiet Thursday evening and were swiftly ushered into their newly refurbished restaurant area,
The menu was surprisingly varied, featuring everything from steak and chips to miso rice bowls. We started by sharing some cheesy garlic bread because, well, why wouldn't you?
After a long period of indecision I ended up ordering the Chicken Katsu, while Calum went for a double patty burger. The original plan was to split and share, but after seeing how much onion was in the patties I stuck to my own (tell me I'm not alone in this?!).
The Chicken Katsu was by far the best that I've ever eaten, although it's probably worth bearing in mind that I think the Wagamama version is one of the worst. The All Bar One menu described the dish as firecracker chicken served in a Caribbean inspired curry sauce, and I'd undoubtedly go back again just for another fix.
For dessert I opted for the Belgian Chocolate Brownie, served warm with ice cream. Calum isn't a chocolate fan and I have a sneaky feeling that the dessert menu we were offered wasn't the full one, at least compared to the menu online. Still, while Calum didn't find anything he fancied, the choice of chocolate, chocolate or more chocolate was more than fine for me. The brownie was one of the richest that I've ever eaten so the ice cream was definitely a welcome addition. I couldn't manage the whole thing, but it's fair to say that I gave it my very best shot.
Overall I’d definitely visit All Bar One Norwich again, even if just for another serving of Katsu. I’m also desperate to try the Toffee Popcorn Cheesecake, while recommendations for more adventurous mains are more than welcome!
