High Street's Hottest
High streets hottest, pick of the drugstore, the best of Boots... you get the jist. As far as make up is concerned, I've been just as smitten with many bargain buys recently as I have been with more luxurious purchases. My collection is brimming with great little finds and with a Boots 3 for 2 offer provocatively looming, I couldn't think of a better time to share my top 10 picks...
My love for Rimmel's Wake Me Up Foundation is old news by now and I've finally reached the end of my first bottle of the stuff. A healthy, medium coverage with tiny light reflecting particles that give the skin an awakened glow with none of the associated shimmer; what more could you ask for? There's a few other high street foundations on my wishlist at the moment (Rimmel Match Perfect, L'oreal True Match, Bourjois Happy Light etc...) but I'll definitely be picking up another bottle of this at some point along the way. The Seventeen Instant Glow Shimmer Brick in Pink Bronze leaves me with a similar radiance that's incredibly subtle but can easily be built up for something a little bolder.
I've been raving on about the Max Factor False Lash Effect Waterproof Mascara (phew!) for a while now, but since adding it to my collection I've barely reached for anything else. I've actually been a little cautious of waterproof formulas before as I worried they'd be too drying on my lashes or a real pain to remove, but it's nothing a little of the Clinique Take The Day Off Make Up Remover can't fix. For the extra time spent cleansing, you're rewarded with a serious dose of jet black volume that holds a curl and sticks around smudge-free for the entire day... so worth it. The Rimmel Scandaleyes Kohl Liner in Nude is a great option when I'm feeling a little more sleepy than usual. A sweep of this across my waterline reduces the appearance of redness and makes my eyes look all the more awake. I wrote a full review of the NYX Brow Marker here so I wont go into too much detail, but for a more defined brow look this is a great little high street option. The sheer tip allows you to build up colour as and when needed, which is ideal for those with brows a little more sparse in some areas than others (like myself, unfortunately...)
When it comes to nails, I'm all about the high street. My love for Essie is well documented, but I'm also a huge fan of the Topshop Nail Paints; my favourite shade of all being One Hot Minute, a gorgeous red-toned fuchsia that's more than a little reminiscent of the YSL Rose Baby Doll Polish. There really are some beautiful shades in the range, all of which leave a smooth, glossy finish and have incredible lasting power. Another favourite formula of mine is the Barry M Gelly Nail Paints. I'm so pleased that more high street brands are bringing out gel polishes now, they're my favourite formula to work with and the Barry M option in Lychee is one of my go-to shades all year round. Although very few of the colours in the range appeal to me personally, for a high street brand there's a good number to choose from and the formula is just right.
I have so many products to choose from as far as lips are concerned; I actually find that high street lipsticks often impress me more than their more expensive counterparts. Rimmel's Apocalips Lip Laquers get a lot of love on the blogging circuit and for good reason, the colour pay off is second to none and the formula just makes them so easy to wear. A lot of the shades available are a little bolder than I'd usually go for, but a thin coat of Celestial blotted over the lips is the perfect tone for me. When I'm after something with serious staying power, I've found nothing better than the Maybelline 24hr Lip Colours; my preferred shade of choice being Rose Dust. A two-part formula, the gloss dries incredibly quickly on the lips to a matte finish that literally wont budge, so a healthy coating of the clear balm on top is essential. Not the easiest formula to wear, but it's lovely to have a product in my lipstick arsenal that I really know will stand the test of time. For a more everyday look, I'm always about the balm; and none have impressed me more than the classic Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balms. Don't get me wrong, my love for the Korres Lip Butters still rages on, but there's something so quick and easy about using a stick balm; plus the neutral shade range is right up my street.
