The Weekend Makeup Bag

Having been completely rushed off my feet lately I jumped at the chance for a little weekend getaway to the countryside. Being so busy has meant that i just haven't been looking after my skin at all, so when packing I made sure to include simple products that would hide the damage without clogging up my skin and making it worse. I wanted a natural, everyday look that could be achieved in a matter of minutes with as little fuss as possible, so I thought I'd let you all in on the products that made the cut!

After cleansing my skin I've taken to using the Nivea Express Hydration Primer as a first step. This has been sitting in my drawer since its release earlier this year but I've only just started to enjoy using it as I find my skin doesn't need quite as much extra hydration as it used to. A two in one moisturiser and primer, this saves valuable space in my makeup bag and adds a healthy boost of moisture to the skin whilst providing a smooth canvas for foundation at the same time. My base product of choice recently has been Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation; another product that I've had for ages but I've only recently started falling for. It's safe to say that I've been run off my feet everyday for the past couple of weeks and my exhaustion is really taking a toll on my complexion overall. First thing in the morning my skin looks red, patchy and full of unsightly blemishes so I've wanted something to even everything out whilst still feeling lightweight on the skin. The subtle shimmer in this gives everything a boost of radiance and makes me look (almost) alive on the mornings when my skin is particularly drab. It doesn't last as long as I'd like it to so a quick touch up with concealer halfway through the day may be an option for some - but usually I can't be bothered with that step!

In terms of concealer my trusty pot of Benefit Erase Paste has been saving the day on multiple occassions. A thick, creamy coverup, this is very much the daddy of my concealer collection and it's the one I turn to on those really bad skin days. It's also saved me from some shockingly bad undereye circle dilemmas lately - result! A quick dusting of the MAC MSF Natural ensures everything is well blended and set in place.

For everything else I've been keeping it really simple and basic. My peepers are defined with a dab of the Jemma Kidd Duo I-Creme in 'Cashmere' over each lid. A gorgeous natural beige with a hint of shimmer, I find eye creams like this are far more easy to apply when I'm in a hurry. I then use the Cosmo Lash Curlers to add some curl to my eyelashes before slicking on one coat of Benefit's They're Real. I've mentioned this mascara enough times on my blog for you to know what it's all about by now, so lets just say it's a holy grail that goes absolutely everywhere with me! My brows are then defined with a little bit of the shade 'Naked 2' from Urban Decay's Naked Basics palette and a Real Techniques Brow Brush.

Following on from my recent post about using lipstick on the cheeks, I've packed one product to do it all. Estee Lauder's Double Wear Lipstick in 'Stay Mauve' is patted onto both the apples of my cheeks and my lips with my finger, leaving behind with a soft flush of colour that doesn't budge through the day. I love the whole Double Wear range from EL so it's only natural that their lippies would follow suit! Only packing one product for both uses may seem a little scary to some, but it's a technique that I absolutely love and I find the results to be surprisingly fail safe.
