Buying Beauty Products | When To Save and When To Splurge

Save on... EYES

Products to try: Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara, Bourjois Colorband, Rimmel Exaggerate Liner

I've preferred cheaper mascara formulas for as long as I can remember, in fact I'm yet to find a high end option that comes close to the Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof or Max Factor False Lash Effect formulas. It's worth noting that I'm not the biggest fan of powder shadows from the high street, but it's a great place to seek out cream colours.

Save on... NAILS

Products to try: Rimmel Salon Pro, Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure, Barry M Nail Paint

Nail polish is my fail safe buy when I'm in need of some retail therapy, which is probably how I've built up such a substantial collection. Even so, more expensive formulas are thin on the ground and I have a tendency to gravitate towards the same high street brands that I've used for years.

Save on... LIP CARE

Products to try: Lord & Berry Lip Potion, Nuxe Reve de Miel, Burts Bees Tinted Lip Balm

I've never been the biggest lip colour hoarder; nine times out of ten I'm content with a just layer of balm. I've tried countless luxury options over the years and honestly, I've found them all to pretty much do the same thing and don't really see the point in paying the excess.

Splurge on... HAIR

Products to try: Bumble & bumble Brilliantine, Bumble & bumble Texture (un)Dressing Creme, Redken Body Full Shampoo

I've been incorporating a growing amount of high end styling products into my routine for a few years now. A lifelong sufferer of naturally limp, poker straight hair, I really do think it's an investment that pays off.

Splurge on... TOOLS

Products to try: Shu Uemura Lash Curlers, The Original Beauty Blender, Louise Young Brushes

I still use Real Techniques brushes on a regular basis and I think they're amazing quality for the price, but there's something about curating a collection of luxury brushes and tools that feels so satisfying.

Splurge on... BASE

Products to try: NARS Sheer Glow FoundationHourglass Ambient Lighting PowderBobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit

I'm a sucker for a highly priced base product and I've never found a high street formula that quite matches up. In terms of coverage, longevity and overall finish, I'd definitely recommend spending a little more.
