A Night In With Yellows and Deliveroo Norwich
I love food. I mean, I really love food. And not the avocado on toast kind. Real food. Pizza, curry, chicken kebabs... everything you know is bad for you but tastes so good that you're beyond caring. So when the opportunity came to sample the menu of one of Norwich's most highly rated burger joints from the comfort of my own sofa, I was naturally up for the challenge.
I've used Deliveroo a few times before and have always been impressed with their service. It makes a welcome change to order takeaway from restaurants that you know are of a high quality and that offer something different to the usual. There's a whole range of cuisines to choose from in Norwich, whether you're after a light lunch or a three course meal.
Calum and I were both in the mood burgers (when aren't we?), so naturally Yellows American Bar & Grill was our first choice. I ordered the ultra simple Yellows Burger, while Calum went for the Exclusive Deliveroo Burger with pulled pork, melted cheese and onion rings. The onion rings were unfortunately missing when our food arrived, but the portions were so generous that we didn't see much point in complaining. Both burgers were cooked medium-well and came with a hefty serving of chunky fries, salad and coleslaw on the side.
It's easy to see why Yellow's has earned itself such an impressive reputation. The burgers were incredible. Perfectly cooked (I always order meat well done) and really well seasoned; in fact I'd go as far as to say that they give larger burger chains like GBK a run for their money. The crowning glory though was undoubtedly the dessert. Yellows actually only offer one sweet treat on their takeaway menu, but it's one that's well worth saving room for. Four fresh donuts served with a warm chocolate dipping sauce that's as rich as melted dark chocolate. The donuts themselves were impressive in size (we each had one and saved the rest for later) and could easily be warmed through in the microwave the following day.
Deliveroo were brilliant as always and the food arrived hot in a fraction of the 45 minute estimated delivery time. The best part is that you receive real-time updates on your order, from food prep right through to when the Deliveroo team turn up on your doorstep. A Friday night in with a takeaway and a good film made a really nice change and I wouldn't hesitate about ordering from Yellows again - even if it's just for a box of donuts.
