I love a matte lip. Wearable, flattering and long lasting; the only thing that prevents a full blown love affair are my usually very dry, chapped lips. When the lovely Jaye at Bed In The Kitchen hosted a blog sale recently I jumped straight on the hype and nabbed my first try of the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils. I've been wanting to try this formula for the longest time, but with no NARS counter nearby I was cautious to split with the full price without giving them a go first.
I picked up Sex Machine; described by NARS as 'an innocent pink mauve'. This was actually the shade that I had been eyeing up most online so I was really pleased to finally give it a try. The colour itself is right up my street - a pretty, pink toned nude that adds colour and definition to the lips without being too in your face. It's possibly the perfect accompaniment to a brown smokey eye and I couldn't be more chuffed with it. This particular shade does contain a little shimmer; something that I found a little off putting at first - although when applied to the lips I find that this is barely visible and actually helps to give the illusion of a slightly fuller pout. Bonus. The best part? This stuff is actually comfortable. Never before have I been able to wear my beloved matte finish with as little attention being drawn to the dire state of my lips underneath (nice). That teamed with a wickedly long lasting formula and creamy, effortless application make this the only lip shade that I've been reaching for recently.
