Oh, You Pretty Things

You should never judge a book by it's cover, but cosmetics are a different story.

I'm a sucker for a little bit of luxury; at least in my makeup bag. There's something about pulling out a beautifully decorated compact or a sleek and simple lipstick bullet that makes me feel incredibly ladylike and, dare I say it, grown up. It's not to say that only high end products can be appealing to the eye, but I do find that packaging is one aspect of cosmetics where you usually get what you pay for.

As you can probably tell from my blog design and layout, my taste is all about keeping things simple, minimal and above all else; monochrome. The Bobbi Brown and Lord & Berry designs therefore tick all of the right boxes for me, with their trademark white type set against sleek black packaging. It's a trend that The Bathory have also adopted and it's no secret that I'm head over heels from the way that everything from their website to their violet glass jars are designed. I'm also a huge fan of the typeface used by Greek beauty brand Korres; the company have a whole host of design awards under their belt and for good reason - theirs are some of my favourite products to have out on display in the bathroom.

Possibly the most swoon-worthy piece in my collection is the Burberry Single Eyeshadow. A super sleek compact embossed with the trademark Burberry pattern; it's love. It even comes with a fitting velvet pocket included, making it just that little more extravagant (as if it ever needed it). The nail polish crown is arguably taken by Ciate; although the shape and size of their bottles are a huge pain to fit into storage. That said, you just can't ignore the trademark black bow and I do really love how clean and simple their branding has become. Clarins aren't usually my pick when it comes to how their products look on the outside, but the Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors do hold a special place in my heart. Whether it's the colour, shape or size of the tubes I'm really not sure; but they're just as good to look at as they are to use. A special mention also has to go to YSL. Yes their products are a little on the pricey side, but there's no better brand if you fancy injecting a little bit of luxury into your makeup bag.
